About Us

Get to know us. Learn more about our church and what we believe through our statement of faith. Our staff and leadership team seek to serve and equip our church to carry out the mission of Jesus.

We are a community church, built by the people of Woodside, serving God since 1893. We support the proclamation of the Gospel, the celebration of the sacraments, and the education of the Christian faith and its values. No matter who you are or where you are in life, we hope that you will come and explore the next steps of your journey with us. Woodside, a picturesque town in the heart of Silicon Valley, offers a unique blend of tranquility and innovation. The town's welcoming atmosphere, combined with a commitment to preserving its natural beauty, is directly across the street from a local elementary school, and surrounded by redwood forests creating a sense of community warmth.

Vision Statement: A Spirit-led community bringing renewal through Christ’s love.

Mission: CUE (Community, Unity, Encounter)

Community

Our church has long served the Woodside community through our coffee, space, and gardens, but we long to grow deeper as a community that follows Jesus. As we strengthen our ministries and our personal walk with God, we pray others will encounter Jesus through us.

Unity

We seek to stand united around the teachings of Jesus and the truth of Scripture. As one body, we strive to love one another and reach outward in mission together.

Encounter

In all we do, we seek to encounter Jesus, who through the Holy Spirit empowers us to love well and live transformed lives. Unity and community flow only when we center everything on Him as King over every part of our lives.

Statement of Faith

Our Church's statement of faith is rooted in the revelation of God through the Old and New Testaments.  We confess the historic statements given to the Christian Church through the Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed.

  1. The Trinitarian God:  Father, Son, and Holy Spirit who is sovereign in creation, providence, revelation, redemption, and final judgment.  (Matthew 28:19, John 20:21; Colossians 1:16)

  2. Scripture:  Both the Old and New Testaments as the absolute authority in all matters of faith, knowledge of God, and how we are to live.  (1 Peter 3:16; 2 Tim. 3:16)

  3. Sin and the Savior:  All human beings are universally cursed by sin and thus, separated from God and needing a Savior in order to experience salvation.  (Romans 3:23)

  4. The Cross:  Because of His love, God has provided the ultimate sacrifice through the death of the incarnate Son.  This is the only means by which salvation can be found. (John 3:16; Ephesians 2:16)

  5. Faith:  Through faith in Christ’s work on the cross and His resurrection, all people can experience redemption, eternal life, and a personal relationship with God. (Romans 5:1)

  6. The Holy Spirit:  The Spirit of the Father, and the Son that speaks, guides, loves, leads, and sanctifies those with saving faith.    (John 14:25, John 20:21)

  7. Unity of the Church:  Through the leading of the Holy Spirit, although full of diversity and differences, the church of Jesus Christ is one body under His headship.  (Ephesians 4:5)

  8. The Return:  The Lord Jesus Christ is expected to return again, of which those who believe await the second coming.  (Matthew 24:42; Revelation 22:12)

The History Of Woodside Village CHurch

Woodside Village Church, established in 1893, has been a cornerstone of the Woodside community for over a century. The church's roots trace back to 1889 when Pastor L.D. Rathbone of the Congregational Church of Redwood City initiated a Sunday school in Woodside, initially gathering in Scout Hall. By April 1891, the local community expressed a desire for their own place of worship, leading to collaborative efforts with the Redwood City congregation to plan and fundraise for a new church. This collaboration culminated in the construction of Woodside Village Church, serving as a testament to the community's dedication to faith and unity.
