Children's Ministries
Sunday School: Pre-K through Elementary School
Members of Woodside Village Church take seriously the importance of training up our children and teaching them the foundations of our Christian faith. Each week our teaching team faithfully plans child-friendly lessons to teach God's loving relationship with His people and how to live out the Good News of Jesus' love.
This Sunday School class of children ages 3 - 9 uses the 'One Room Sunday School' curriculum. The material not only provides lessons geared to involve the children at their various ages of understanding and skill, but also provides take home pages so parents can assist with their child's faith formation at home. Because we also want our children to learn about Worship, our program is geared to have the children attend the beginning of Worship with their families. After receiving a message from the Pastor during 'Kid's Time', the children are then escorted to their classroom (Room 8) by their Sunday School teacher(s). Following their lesson, children return to Worship to celebrate Communion with their families.
We start our year each September with the installation of our Sunday School teachers and a Rally Day BBQ celebration. In December, our Sunday School classes delight the congregation during the Worship service with our children's Christmas pageant. And, in the Spring, we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus at our Easter Worship celebration and an Easter egg hunt following church.
We hope you will consider joining us. If you have any questions about our Sunday School program, please contact the Church office at (650) 851-1587, or better yet, come Worship with us any Sunday at 9:30 am!
YOUTH MINISTRIES
On Sundays, while adult members remain in the worship service in the Sanctuary, our young people depart for class, where I teach these lessons. I say, "I teach", but the reality is that our young people teach me again and again, with their comments, their questions, and their joy about life and about each other.
During class we read scripture, to interpret its original meaning, and to examine how it applies to how we live our lives today. Through scripture and dialogue we strive to improve our relationship with God and His son, Jesus Christ.
Once a month, our young people remain with the adult members through the worship service. They assist by greeting at the door, or being the reader of the week's scripture, or being bearers of the bread and wine to the communion table. And when there is a fifth Sunday in the month, the youth group usually has an outside fun group activity.
In addition, they often participate in outreach events, such as passing out bag lunches to the homeless. As with all our members of the Woodside Village Church, our youth are encouraged to understand and practice our mission statement - "To celebrate God's love in worship, to proclaim the Gospel in words and deeds, and to reach out to the needs of others."
