About Us

We are a community church, built by the people of Woodside, serving God since 1893. We support the proclamation of the Gospel, the celebration of the sacraments, and the education of the Christian faith and its values. No matter who you are or where you are in life, we hope that you will come and explore the next steps of your journey with us. Woodside, a picturesque town in the heart of Silicon Valley, offers a unique blend of tranquility and innovation. The town's welcoming atmosphere, combined with a commitment to preserving its natural beauty, is directly across the street from a local elementary school, and surrounded by redwood forests creating a sense of community warmth.

Our Worship Service

Our atmosphere is casual and inviting, so feel free to come as you are—no need to dress up. The service begins with uplifting music led by our talented worship team followed by an inspiring message for all generations. Throughout the service, we provide opportunities for reflection and prayer. Children are an integral part of our community, and we offer an engaging and age-appropriate program during the service. After service, all are encouraged to have conversation and fellowship in Guild Hall with light snacks and coffee. We practice open table communion once a month.

Origins

The small town of Woodside was one of the earliest English-speaking settlements on the San Francisco Peninsula. Settlers arrived here in the 18th century to log the rich stands of redwoods. During the 1849 Gold Rush, 20-year-old Mathias Alfred Parkhurst purchased 127 acres of timberland and called it Woodside. Around 1838, Charles Brown built the area’s first sawmill. By 1850, there were a dozen mills producing building materials for a burgeoning San Francisco. Timber was floated to San Francisco from a nearby port, now called Redwood City. Woodside continued as a center of timber until the end of the 19th century.
Woodside next became the center of wine production for California. The wine industry started here when Hungarian Count Harasthy founded the Buena Vista Winery just north of the present-day Woodside. By 1889, 800 acres held vineyards. In 1916, Woodside’s wines won recognition as the best in the state.

Statement of Faith

Our Church's statement of faith is rooted in the revelation of God through the Old and New Testaments.  We confess the historic statements given to the Christian Church through the Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed.

  1. The Trinitarian God:  Father, Son, and Holy Spirit who is sovereign in creation, providence, revelation, redemption, and final judgment.  (Matthew 28:19, John 20:21; Colossians 1:16)

  2. Scripture:  Both the Old and New Testaments as the absolute authority in all matters of faith, knowledge of God, and how we are to live.  (1 Peter 3:16; 2 Tim. 3:16)

  3. Sin and the Savior:  All human beings are universally cursed by sin and thus, separated from God and needing a Savior in order to experience salvation.  (Romans 3:23)

  4. The Cross:  Because of His love, God has provided the ultimate sacrifice through the death of the incarnate Son.  This is the only means by which salvation can be found. (John 3:16; Ephesians 2:16)

  5. Faith:  Through faith in Christ’s work on the cross and His resurrection, all people can experience redemption, eternal life, and a personal relationship with God. (Romans 5:1)

  6. The Holy Spirit:  The Spirit of the Father, and the Son that speaks, guides, loves, leads, and sanctifies those with saving faith.    (John 14:25, John 20:21)

  7. Unity of the Church:  Through the leading of the Holy Spirit, although full of diversity and differences, the church of Jesus Christ is one body under His headship.  (Ephesians 4:5)

  8. The Return:  The Lord Jesus Christ is expected to return again, of which those who believe await the second coming.  (Matthew 24:42; Revelation 22:12)
